Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has approved a five-year plan to expand its soft mobility network, making it easier for residents to walk, cycle and use e-scooters. The project will improve transport links in 25 residential communities and upgrade access around 63 Metro and bus stations by 2030.
The initiative includes wider footpaths, dedicated cycling lanes, shaded walkways, safer pedestrian crossings, bicycle parking and convenient pick-up and drop-off areas. These improvements are designed to make first- and last-mile travel more comfortable while encouraging greater use of public transport instead of private vehicles.
According to the RTA, demand for alternative transport continues to rise. In 2025, Dubai recorded 342 million pedestrian journeys, 57.3 million cycling trips and 39.6 million e-scooter rides, highlighting the growing popularity of sustainable travel options across the emirate.
The authority said the project supports the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan by improving connectivity between residential areas, business districts and public transport hubs. The upgraded infrastructure will also include accessible facilities for People of Determination and expanded shared mobility services, helping create a safer, greener and more connected transport network for residents and visitors alike.
