Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is expanding its soft mobility network to make walking, cycling and e-scooter travel more convenient across the emirate. Construction is already underway in Dubai Marina, Naif, Al Rigga, Al Murar and Al Muraqqabat, with the programme set to cover 34 residential communities by 2030.
As part of the initiative, the RTA will upgrade areas around Metro and bus stations with wider footpaths, dedicated cycling lanes, shaded walkways, safer pedestrian crossings and improved facilities for People of Determination. New bicycle parking and organised pick-up and drop-off zones will also make it easier for residents to connect with public transport.
The move comes as demand for sustainable travel continues to grow. In 2025, Dubai recorded nearly 439 million journeys made by walking, cycling and e-scooters, reflecting a sharp increase in the use of alternative transport. The RTA expects the enhanced network to encourage more residents to choose public transport for everyday travel.
Dubai is also expanding its cycling infrastructure, with the network reaching 636 kilometres by the end of 2025 and aiming to hit 1,000 kilometres by 2030. The RTA has also introduced smart inspection technology to monitor cycling and e-scooter tracks more efficiently, helping maintain safe and reliable infrastructure while supporting the city’s long-term sustainable transport goals.
