Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has opened a new four-lane bridge at the intersection of Al Qudra Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, marking another stage in the wider Al Qudra Road Development Project. The 700-metre structure is located on the southern side of the junction and is designed to carry traffic along Al Qudra Road towards Al Qudra City. According to RTA, the opening is expected to reduce waiting time at the intersection by about 85 per cent, taking delays from nearly seven minutes to around one minute. The authority also says capacity at the junction will rise sharply, from 7,800 vehicles an hour to 19,400.
The latest opening completes the main traffic layout at the crossing after the opposite bridge, which serves motorists travelling from Al Qudra City towards Umm Suqeim, was opened in February. Further changes are still planned for the fourth quarter of 2026, when two side-ramp bridges are scheduled to open so traffic can move in all directions without affecting the main carriageways. One of those planned links will be a 500-metre bridge connecting Al Qudra Road to Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street towards Jebel Ali, while the other, measuring 900 metres, will serve drivers heading towards Downtown Dubai and Dubai International Airport.
The project also includes three kilometres of service roads on both sides of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, along with broader works covering several intersections, four kilometres of bridges and an 11.6km section of Al Qudra Road. RTA says the corridor serves more than 400,000 residents and visitors across nearby communities and developments, including Arabian Ranches 1 and 2, Dubai Motor City, Dubai Studio City, Akoya, Mudon, DAMAC Hills and The Sustainable City. The road is a major east-west route linking residential areas and key arterial roads from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Emirates Road. Earlier this year, RTA opened a 1.2km bridge with four lanes in each direction at the intersection with the road linking Arabian Ranches and Dubai Studio City, and in May it completed improvements at Emirates Road and Al Qudra Road, including a service road towards Jebel Ali and a free-flow loop ramp. Another ramp is scheduled to open later this month, while lane additions are under way on both sides of Emirates Road over a combined 4.8km.
